ReViTALISE at a Cancer Research Participation for Indigenous People (CaRP-I) workshop

The Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk team has been collaborating with the Queensland based CaRP-I (Cancer Research Participation - Indigenous people) team for more than a year, as we are conducting projects that have similar broad aims.

The CaRP-I team invited us to their workshop on the traditional lands of the Nalbo and the Dallambara people, of the Gubbi Gubbi language group, in Maleny Queensland. The workshop was focused on privileging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices during the development of cancer research resources, which is a critical aspect of the Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk study as well.

The Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk team were warmly welcomed by our northern colleagues and had a very enjoyable few days. The group exchanged information generously, lots of ideas were discussed in a spirit of shared aims, and significant progress was made towards the development of resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The workshop was a fantastic opportunity to meet our colleagues in person, including Leah Lindrea-Morrison, Gail Garvey, Coralie Achterberg, Lorraine Tutton, Kalisha Soe, Andrea Casey and Royden Fagan. We discussed how we can continue to progress the CaRP-I work towards completion, while also strengthening the work done by the Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk team on Yorta Yorta Country, and ensuring that our projects are complementary. We look forward to future collaboration with the CaRP-I team.
