Our recent joint publication with the Victorian Teletrial Collaborative (VTC) on teletrial implemention was informed by two workshops with national stakeholders, focused on early-phase clinical trials.
A paper on these workshops, including an action plan addressing six key themes, was also recently published in the Springer Nature journal - Teletrial implementation in early phase clinical trials: two national workshops | Trials
Through these workshops, we were able to clarify various perspectives regarding the barriers and enablers to the implementation of the teletrial model for use in early-phase clinical trials. It was concluded that the identified barriers were generic to all trials utilising the teletrial model, and multi-centre early-phase trials more generally.
Video communication can be incorporated into all clinical trials including early phase clinical trials, eg. the conduct of low-risk trial procedures such as screening visits, follow-up visits and decentralised radiological examinations with accredited vendors.
Incorporating video communication into trial conduct is an important enabler to address the issue of equity of access for priority populations and to bring care closer to home.
The Victorian Teletrial Collaborative would like to acknowledge funding received for our individual programs from the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.
