The ReViTALISE team recently attended the 2024 Clinical Oncology Society of Australia's annual scientific meeting at Gold Coast and delivered a symposium on Friday, 13 November. Each of the seven ReViTALISE initiatives had the opportunity to discuss their challenges and milestones, mid-way into th project.
Leah Lindrea-Morrison opened with an Acknowledgement of Country and also presented on the Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk 'Talk Together' study. The study will enable yarning circles regarding clinical trials amongst the Yorta Yorta community in Shepparton. "There’s a lot of interest on this study, and people loved the artwork created by a local Yorta Yorta artist," said Monica Green, Co-ordinating Investigator for the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander initiative.
"Sharing @research at COSA was an important opportunity to raise awareness of this comprehensive health services research training resource at a national level," said Prof Mei Krishnasamy, a collaborator with the ReViTALISE Regional Research Training Hub initiative. focused on increasing research capacity and capability in regional Victoria.
Mirriam Ferres and Gail Wilmot, from Barwon Health, delivered updates on ReViTALISE palliative care initiatives. "COSA provided a fantastic opportunity to share the work we have done increasing regional palliative and supportive care research and trials activity, as well as to hear about exciting projects and innovations in many areas of cancer care," Mirriam said.
"I really enjoyed seeing the scope of work presented, the new connections and relationships evident between regional centres and other academic partners, the growth in confidence and capacity of the regional sites," said A/Prof Craig Underhill, Regional Oncology Lead for ReViTALISE.
Jhodie Duncan, Dr Krishna Rachakonda, Dr Samuel J Harris and Damon Parker (on behalf of consumer Kathleen Wilkins) also shared their presentations at the ReViTALISE symposium.
The COSA ASM was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues and peers, and discover the latest studies across different oncology fields. We hope to be back in the future after the conclusion of our initiatives, to discuss the impact of this ReViTALISE project in regional and rural Victoria.
